Protein-protein interactions(PPI) are essential to almost every process in a cell. so understanding PPIs is crucial for understanding cell physiology in normal and disease states.[1] Protein interactions help deduce the functions of proteins that little is know about and they are crucial in understanding Human disease since many diseases are caused by peripheral interactions. In the case of CLCN1 , the interaction network shows its extensive connections with calcium sensitive chloride channels (BEST) and Kinases such as AKR1B1.
What is the protein interaction network for CLCN1?
In the below networks each organism has interactions between CLCN1 and the various membrane proteins required for chloride ion transport (BEST(family), ANO1, CFTR, and SCNA4). In both the human CLCN1 and mouse CLCN1 homolog interaction networks below, all of the primary interactions are with membrane proteins and proteins implicated in ion transports. This justifies that a mutation in CLCN1 can affect other ion transport membrane proteins.
