While there are many model organisms available to study both CLCN1 and infertility but the organism that will be used in this study is
Mice: The laboratory mice has a close evolutionary relationship and similar biology to human making it highly attractive to model human diseases. In addition mice is used to study infertility due to their complex reproductive system that has structural similarities to humans. They are also homologs to humans and have strong conservation of CLCN1 domains compared to humans. When studying myotonia congentia , there are several research studies that use CLCN1 knock-out models to examine the disease phenotypes and explore therapeutics. Thus mice is a suitable model to investigate the pathology of the disease. Zebra fish: While Zebra does have a different set of reproductive system, it does contain the CLCN1 gene and can be a very useful tool to visualise different interactions through zebra fish's physical properties . Zebra fish are a very inexpensive and versatile research tool. |
